    We have an exciting opportunity for a Media Relations Manager to join East Midlands Railway. 

    Reporting directly to the Head of External Communications & Stakeholder Engagement, you will be responsible for all media relations activity in relation to EMR. It will deal with regional, national and trade press on a daily basis to protect and enhance the reputation of the business.

    The Media Relations Manager will manage a range of proactive and reactive media opportunities, including sourcing positive stories from throughout the business and dealing with queries from journalists.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Managing the business response to incoming enquiries from regional, national and trade press
    • Sourcing positive media opportunities from across the business to highlight the £600million investment being delivered during the franchise
    • Delivering positive news stories in an accurate, timely and effective manner
    • Acting as a company spokesperson when carrying out interviews and briefings with journalists
    • Managing the External Communications proactive media calendar
    • Engage with external stakeholders to act as a spokesperson for the company as required
    • Provide advice and guidance to senior and executive colleagues, particularly in regards to sensitive issues
    • Working with colleagues across the business to enhance EMR’s reputation

    The Media Relations Manager will need to have fantastic communication skills with the ability to engage with key stakeholders. You will work collaboratively with external colleagues, particularly those in Network Rail, to protect and enhance the reputation of the rail industry.  

    We are looking for someone that holds a degree or equivalent and has experience of working in a busy press office, journalism or PR agency. 

    You will have experience of building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders of all levels and have a sound understanding and awareness of key audiences and effective channels.   

    The Medial Relations Manager should thrive when working in a fast paced environment and have the ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure and to tight deadlines
