    We have an exciting opportunity to join East Midlands Railway as a Fleet Support Engineer based at our Head Office in Derby. Working for the Fleet Engineering Manager you will provide professional engineering support to the fleet function, including an on call support and you will be responsible for the project management of engineering schemes from development to completion.  

    The Fleet Support Manager will:

    • Develop and manage proposed modifications to the rolling stock in the EMR rail vehicle fleet, ensuring that these comply with all mandatory and best practice standards and legislation.
    • Undertake technical and engineering investigations in the event of serious or potentially serious incidents occurring.
    • Carry out investigations and audits and make recommendations including preparation of reports for other industry bodies as required.
    • Review all relevant industry, national and international engineering standards and ensure they are adequately implemented.
    • Provide statistical information and reports to the Fleet Engineering Team, customers and other industry bodies as required.
    • Work with teams across all functions within the business to develop engineering solutions to issues on the Fleet
    • Monitor fleet performance and recommend solutions to improve performance
    • Liaise with customers and suppliers with regards to best practice application of standards and practices.
    • Ensure that accurate and complete Safety Related Defect Reporting, engineering and safety KPIs are reviewed for both performance and safety. Ensure remedial actions are taken as required.
    • Carry out audits of fleet activities to ensure the maintenance practices across the Fleet meet the required business and industry standards.
    • To attend EMR training days in relation to being 'Fleet on Call' for the safe recovery/re-railing of vehicles.

    We are looking for a Chartered Engineer who is either a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers or Institution of Electrical Engineers with significant experience in a technical/development environment. You will have great IT skills especially with Microsoft office, excellent communication skills and excellent analytical skills with a process driven method of working. It would be extremely beneficial to have knowledge of the relevant vehicle control systems, understanding of Rail Industry Group Standards including applicable rules & regulations and excellent working knowledge of the specific fleet of vehicles.

    Please note this position has an On Call commitment.
