    An experienced and confident HR practitioner, you will enjoy the challenge of working across a diverse range of employment relations (ER) challenges, both individual cases and collective issues, against the backdrop of a highly unionised environment. Everyone counts at EMR and our HR team prides itself on making a tangible difference every day. Highly regarded, our HR Business Partners have a chameleon-like ability to roll their sleeves up deal with the ‘everyday’ grievance and disciplinary matters and work strategically on challenging and complex people issues, where creative problem solving, critical thinking and influencing skills are vital!  Patience helps too!

    You will join HR and mainly work with the Customer Service team so you will be a frequent traveller on our network, enjoying the benefits of first class business travel and using the train as your mobile office.  Our Customer Service team always welcome volunteers if you want time away from HR. We encourage the whole management team to take advantage of any opportunities to work directly with our customers at stations or on-board.

    An experienced HR Business Partner you will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

    • Build line manager capability in employee engagement, performance management & appraisals, succession planning and ER, through effective coaching and mentoring;
    • Manage projects and prioritise a busy workload effectively to achieve results
    • Assimilate and navigate complex collective agreements and bargaining forums, upholding and protecting the integrity of our procedures, policies and employment law;
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with trade union representatives, line mangers and HR colleagues;
    • Influence line managers to prioritise employee engagement, providing practical help when needed.

    CIPD level 5 qualified, commercially aware and resilient, you will have a proven track record of working in a unionised environment and relish working in a collaborative results orientated culture.
