Five times accredited as a Top Employer, we value our people and are dedicated to making sure that everybody feels empowered to bring their authentic self to work. We have an outstanding opportunity to join #TeamEMR Fleet Engineering Team as Level 3 Rail Engineering Apprentices, helping us to present trains the right way, all day, every day.

At EMR we want to proactively embrace diversity across our workforce and recognise that we are under-represented in terms of females and ethnic minority groups. We’re therefore taking positive steps to promote a positive and inclusive culture; we welcome applications from those that identify with these groups to better represent our communities.

Can I apply? All you need is GSCE's at a grade 4 or above (or A* - C if received in 2017 or earlier) in English, Maths and Science. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds. Women and ethnic minority groups are currently under-represented within our Fleet Engineering population and are encouraged to apply. We value diversity and are committed to ensuring equality across our organisation.

    About EMR

Our depots are busy engineering and fleet facilities where we maintain our fleet of trains. At East Midlands Railway, we pride ourselves on creating easier journeys every day for our customers. As an Engineering Apprentice you will support this by ensuring that our trains are safe, well-maintained and reliable. Through in-depth practical experience in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and a host of other tasks that keep our trains on the right track, you will gain the skills necessary to support a long and interesting career in our Fleet Engineering Team.

East Midlands Railway will be going through some significant changes over the next few years’ and our fleet renewal is at the heart of our £600 million investment programme. With more technologically advanced trains and maintenance techniques being introduced it really is an exciting time to be joining our team!

A bit more about the Apprentice Programme...

We have teamed up with the National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR) based in Northampton so that our apprentices are provided with the best training available. This is a four-year programme which is split between college and workplace. This provides a great opportunity for you to network with your peers who are on the course too and help supplement your ‘on the job’ work experience. Your skills will grow to match the scale and diversity of our Fleet, as will your flexibility to turn your hand to new challenges and master new equipment. We will cover all travel and accommodation costs during your training.

Upon successful completion of your Apprenticeship you will have gained the qualifications to be a competent Train Maintenance Technician and be in a good position to be considered for a permanent vacancy within the Fleet Engineering Team.

Of course, quality is important and we expect you to carry out all work to the highest standards. You should enjoy working as part of a dynamic team, have great communication skills, a positive ‘can do’ attitude, an appetite for personal development and a desire to learn new skills. Ultimately we’re looking for individuals who aren’t afraid of commitment and a bit of hard work who want to build a lasting career full of exciting challenges. We’ve seen previous apprentices go on to become highly successful members of the Fleet Engineering Team; our current Head of Fleet Production started life as an apprentice and has never looked back!

This all sound great! How do I apply?

To apply, please complete the on-line application form and upload your CV. As we operate a blind screening process please remove all personal information including your name from your CV.

The successful candidates will enjoy a wide range of benefits, including a defined benefit pension scheme and free travel on the East Midlands Railway network.
