When working on our trains, you will usually be the only member of staff that our customers will see, so it’s important that you are confident in working both on your own and as part of a team. Due to early morning and late evening shift patterns, flexibility is key - and you will need to live within 60 minutes of the station. This role works four days a week and includes weekend work, but we guarantee that you will get a long weekend off every third week.

In this role you will:

• Service, maintain, repair and overhaul traction and rolling stock components to the designated maintenance exam standard
• Carry out cleaning and labouring duties for all areas of the workshop and vehicles
• Operate fuel line and depot equipment
• Drive and operate cranes and road vehicles if a valid license is held

About you

You will provide professional engineering support to the Fleet function, managing engineering schemes from development through to completion to ensure delivery on time, within budget, and to the required standards. Main Duties of the role:

• Lead, coach and develop the Nottingham Operations team, maintaining an inclusive, high-performing culture.
• Take ownership of operational safety and train performance at Nottingham Station.
• Build strong relationships with Network Rail, Train Operating Companies, Freight Operating Companies and internal operational teams.
• Work collaboratively to plan for timetable changes, engineering work and major events.
• Develop and deliver continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational performance.
• Lead the local Competency Management System, ensuring colleagues have the skills and support to perform at their best.
• Analyse operational performance data to identify trends and drive improvements.
• Develop robust contingency and service recovery plans to minimise disruption for customers.
• Work alongside project and infrastructure teams to minimise the impact of engineering and development works.

About you:

• Significant leadership and people management experience.
• Experience operating within a safety-critical or highly regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of EMR's and Nottingham area railway operations and operational planning.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Experience using operational data to drive performance improvements.
• Strong communication and decision-making skills.

Main Duties of the Role:

• Manage and conduct low risk tender or quotation activity for goods, services, and one-off purchases
• Support Category Managers with activities arising from the tendering cycle, from the creation of invitations to tender packages, evaluation criteria and evaluation of responses, development of contracts and post contract activity in line with the EMR Procurement Policy and Procurement Act 2023 Regulations.
• Provide support for Category Managers in the administration of tender exercises to ensure compliance and a clear audit trial
• Establish and maintain relationships and work closely with key internal stakeholders such as budget holders, service and product users to provide a responsive and professional procurement service and to promote good procurement practices;
• Creation of PO’s through the Financial system to provide compliance to policies and procedures
• Create and maintain auditable and transparent records and reports to meet internal and external management information and compliance requirements.
• Process new supplier requests received from colleagues within EMR ensuring the Procurement Policy is adhered to and existing contracts are utilized.
• Management and Governance of the contracts database to ensure that contracts remain valid, and any contractual breaches are identified and resolved.

Skills and Knowledge Required

• A level qualified or equivalent experience
• Studying or willing to study towards Professional Diploma Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS)
• Experience of working within a Procurement Environment
• Working to multiple deadlines often under time constraints without compromising quality
• Team player with the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally to the business. Adaptable to business change.
• Experience on delivering high quality customer service
• Experience of working with a governance framework as well as good level of knowledge in ICT systems, including e-procurement systems and Microsoft suite
• Confidence with willingness to challenge and be challenged
• Ability to complete a procurement process from start to finish with some support
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, e.g. ability to communicate at all levels in the organisation
• Has a flexible attitude and willing to embrace new challenges
